This residence, located in the heart of Bangalore, underwent a renovation for a young entrepreneur and his family's ancestral home, originally built in the 1990s. They aimed to enhance the aesthetics, rejuvenate the living spaces, and add an additional floor to accommodate a master suite in the existing structure.
The house, a typical Bangalorean home, featured a seldom-used garden in the front yard, arched openings, a closed kitchen, and balconies along the length of the building. It stands two stories tall on a site measuring 40 feet by 75 feet, facing east.
Design Features
The front yard, adorned with a pergola
and a tall compound wall, making it more
private. It features a deck for casual
seating, ideal for enjoying afternoon
tea, as well as a waiting area near the
entrance door.
The entrance opens into a double-height living room, with walls wrapped in veneer and marble. The majestic ceiling is complemented by onyx lighting fixtures that also embellish the walls. A glass railing on the first floor accentuates the verticality of the space, enhancing its monumental feel.
The kitchen was revamped to create an open design, enhancing light and ventilation by introducing a structural steel beam to open up the previously existing load-bearing wall.
Marble was one of the principal materials used beyond just flooring, it was also featured in architraves, lighting fixtures and served as a backdrop for tv units and head boards.
The master suite featured a private living area that opened onto the terrace deck. This space was surrounded by other private areas, including the bedroom, walk-in wardrobe, whereas washroom, which could be accessed from the walk-in or directly from the living area for guests during parties.
